A couple of weeks ago I bought an old knackered Stihl hedge trimmer from the local auction. I spent a few hours googling for a manual and came up with two, both giving detailed instructions on how to strip and rebuild the carb. The trimmer works fine now and I decided to try selling the manuals on Ebay.

The 2 manuals are listed at a "Buy it Now" price of £3.99 and £4.99 respectively with an opportunity to bid with the reserve set at the same level. I've sold 11 in the past week :o but the last went for £5.99 as 2 bidders started competing with each other :D .

If anyone needs a workshop manual for a Stihl carb (65 pages!) or walbro carb (which is widely used by most of the manufacturers of petrol power tools, including stihl) pm me and I'll send you a link

What is the reserve price all about, I always thought in a auction you put your starting price in and got as much as you could over that price for it. So can you put a reserve price in or summat that is presumably higher than the starting price that potential buyers can't see:confused:

cheers, Tim

Hi Converse.

How did you manage to buy 2 and sell 11? Maybe I've misunderstood.

The reserve price is unknown to bidders.

I didnt buy 2, I downloaded them for free and then sold copies in Ebook form as an email attachment

I think its called commerce !

A friend and I have startted to sell pottery shards collected off the local beach. He put me onto the idea and we have formed a cartel fixing the price at £20 for 80 pieces. Mostly they go off to interior designers in the USA.

These arent any old pottery shards ! Cromwell was here and after burning the town to the ground, he sank 50 ships some of which were carrying cargos of pottery. The beach is littered with bits of pottery which MAY have come from those ships. Anyway, its a bit of history which the Yanks seem to go for :p
