Rear Lights and indicators

I have just bought a 1993 200Tdi. The rear left park and break lights work fine as long as I do not apply breaks. if I apply breaks the left side light goes out. I have suspicions that while I am driving at certain times the indicators on that side do not work as well however if i test them while the vehicle is stationary they work fine. Please help me. What could be wrong.

Could be a dodgey earth, or loose connection maybe, have a look around the light cluster and trace the earth and make sure its good!

Sounds like a bad earth to me.
