just purchased a a bar for my facelift td5 disco. This is a genuine plastic a frame (land rover )with all necessary fittings.Just unsure how to fit>.I asumme you have to drill through the bumper either side of the number plate(the bits that stick out).Seems a bit drastic, if you take it off your left with two holes. Please could somebody confirm ,your help would be appreciated

Looks like there is a bit of drilling involved ...

Is it from IKEA?

Yes, you drill the holes in the bumper. They are hidden if you take it off! It's where the number plate usually goes. :)
Easy enough to fit these.

hi,the pics you have attached are for the pre facelift model.
Mine is the 2004 model .If you buy the aftermarket a bar the holes are hidden behind the number plate. The genuine a bar has holes either side of the number plate(the two lumps that stick out)seems you have to drill here ,don't fancy doing that as the bumper will be wrecked when or if i take the bar off. any pics for the later a bar would be helpful

thanks

You might find the one you need here (http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp) though.

Sorry, didn't realise there was a difference in fitting. Yes mine is an aftermarket bar and drilled behind the number plate.

I wouldn't fancy drilling the bumper where you could see it!

Another point, I'm not sure if the genuine bar has the optional top brackets for fitting spotlights. If it does and they fit through the front grille like the aftermarket ones then changing bulbs is a nightmare!!
You need to remove the a bar, to remove the brackets, to remove the grille, to get to the screws that hold the headlight units in (in my case after removing the headlight grille's too). Nice  LEAVE THEM OFF!! :D

yeh got geniune a bar .Its alot softer than the aftermarket. The genuine a frame has mounting for spots above and the steady brackets mount in the same place as the aftermarket bar.The geniune a frame has land rover written into the rubber the after market is just plain .I have both a bars the genuine is definately superior, although they look the same the aftermarket is alot harder material.I will be selling the aftermarket a frame on ebay .Going to drill some holes later .If i decide to remove the bar i will cover the holes with parking sensors. Thanks for your help

Hi,

I have a 11/2003 Disco and i want to buy a original a-bar STC53174. My local dealer show me one but the lamps support has only one bolt for each light (photo-0081). Can you tell me please where can i buy one with two bolts supports?
I want to install my original driving ligths like the photo (DSC01161).

Thanks

All sounds horribly similar to the Disco 3 A Bar and Lights - I was not a happy chappy taking a 33mm hole saw to my shiny new bumper... :(

drilled holes in bumper fine used a bar as template.only drilled through plastic as their was allready a hole through the metal behined the bumper.as for mounting lights there is one hole either side on top of a bar, lamp steady bars attach to back of bull bar then attach to top of grill using top grill plastic screws.looks flimsy but does the job plus you can remove easy to change light bulbs .don't know about the separte lamp brackets sorry

Willroy,

With the A-Bar with one single bolt you cannot install the lamps like the dsc01161 photo, look the photo in attach, this is the same bar without lamps.

so your saying you need a lamp mount kit to fit spot lamps through the single hole either side on the a bar

Hi,

No, I am saying that exist two types of supports to the same A-Bar (STC53174).
I buy one STC53174, original Land Rover and the supports are with one bolt each lamp, but if you look close (photos) it’s easy to see the difference,
Two bolts, the lamps are closer and has the logo LR in front and two holes in each support to lamp adjustment, cover by the small logo Land Rover (G4 photo);
One bolt, the lamps use a single point, without logo, and without adjustment (Blue photo)
I send you one example for each one.

Hi thanks,
depends on how you mount them then.Landrover probably charge an arm and a leg for their lights.I'm after some but don't know what do get.seen some with angel eyes on them run off side lights look very smart.seen some landrover lights on ebay but they want £180 a bit steep.rather buy some cibies for half the price.

Hi,
the bar has to have already the integrated supports. I think that Land Rover decided to make an update of the STC53174, without 2 bolts supports. Can you tell me please where i can buy in UK one of these.
Thanks
