Can anyone help.since owning my freelander 12 months it was always a bit heavy on gear selections.Due to me having major work done on the engine(replacing all the seals and oil pump due to leaks) I also had a new clutch fitted at the same time with apparently new hydrolic circuit, went to pick the van up as they had told me it was ready but got there for them to tell me the mechanic was not happy with the clutch as he couldnt get any gears without crunching,so he said that the clutch he had just fitted must be faulty,he said that he would get onto his supplier and fit a new one accordingly.Picked the van up 2 days later ok.That was 5 months ago,now the same problem is back!!! I can never get the van in gear easily reverse is shocking!! and the forward gears are increaseingly hard to get.
The pedal feels really dodgey it is as if the clutch is not disengaging engine to gearbox correctly..Any help would be good.
Thanks Guy.

The clutch is dragging. The pressure plate isn't fully releasing. It can be the hydraulics or the pressure plate isn't releasing squarely, a Distorted Diaphragm does that. Oil on the plates can cause drag, if it is getting burnt off.

I don't think I have heard of clutch arm problems on the K and L series, but someone might remember if there is. There is a known problem with MGfs with the arm seizing in the bellhousing casing bush. You could try the arm where the slave fits to, and see if it moves back and forward easily. A bit of Oil won't hurt.

First thing is check the hydraulics. If it is the clutch, take it back and let them check it over. There will be a 12 month Manufacturers Warranty on the parts. Labour, you will have to haggle about, sometimes they can make a claim for it from the Manufacturer or Supplier.
