There are an awful lot of Parts and workshop manuals on CD for sale on Ebay, are these legal copies or just scanned rip-offs?
Anyone any idea? If they are illegal copies is there any point in telling Ebay?

If they are dirt cheap, they are probably copies.

they are crap unless you have a printer , even then looking through them for something perticular is an experience in itself.
i got the paper ones , workshop and parts manual from e bay for less than a tenner , the parts catalogue was 99p.
much better when its written down on paper in front of you.

I beleive the older ones are scanned copies but newer manuals are very usful word searchable pdfs - paper copy is nice but you only end up printing a couple of pages each time your doing something then getting them covered in oil...
As Paul says there are site out there which will allow fee download (sorry haven't got the links) - the guys on eblag I suspect are just selling stuff they've downloaded for free - copyrite is probably still with LR?
Having bought a new TD5 from LR a few years ago all I can say is for the cost it should have come with CD of the manual and parts cat - suppose software to interface with the ECU would have been nice too.
Not just Land Rover manuals on the web, I've seen all sorts including Rolls Royce for the better off home mechanics  :D :D

Manuals or vehicles?
All parts cats and rep op manuals for S2 and S3 (including the optional catalogues). No problem there or fixing the S3.
The Santana is the problem - lots of things the same so I can use the Series manuals - and other things are different eg 3500 6 cylinder engine, gearbox, power steering, anti-roll bars. I keep trying here in Spain and drawing a total blank - anyone who has them doesn't want to get rid of them. And I've tried Britpart and their Spanish offshoot (for want of a better description). Aaaah. Small rant over. Sensitive subject. Nice of you to ask though. It's still a good machine. cheers adrian
