Hi there, does anyone know the specifications of the front-most bearing on the propshaft in the Freelander model 1999. One of the tree rollerbearing is broken and my dealer says that I have to buy the total propshaft (No thanks!, I said) I hope my attached picture explains a'little witch bearing I'm talking about.

Best regards from Iceland,
Kristjan

Worth a try at least.

I have to remove my prop assembly this weekend as the viscous coupling is jammed solid. I know the bearing you mean and I will have a good look to see if it should be available seperately. Let you know the results soon ..

Does anyone know what the correct name for the bearing front most attached to the prop is called....... strange knocks on the floor. Its doing my head in  . When this bearing goes does it normally spatter out grease and would it affect steering at full lock ??? :(

Steering judder on hard lock is usually down to a seizing VC or a CV on the drive shafts.

Check the rear diff mountings ( front usually) and the VC bearings for the rubber breaking away.
Check the rear subframe for the mountings breaking away from the chassis.

The front joint is a constant velocity joint, they don't fail usually but are prone to leaking the grease from the rubber seal.

hi, to remove the propshaft do i need to remove the rear output pinion (or output shaft) which is connected to the Intermediate reduction drive?

Many thanks

This went on my car last month and the garage that i bought my car was having trouble sourcing a new one, or so they say, so they ended up having mine reconned. They reckon that this cost them about £120
