Anyone on here got any expreience of using a Browning GTI Sporter Ultra? Am stuck deciding betwen buying a very nice second hand one i've been offered, or an equally nice SBS Winchester Pigeon grade. Browning is Multichoke, but not a 3" magnum, which the Winchester is. Both are very nice guns to use, and have bagged me a fair bit whilst ive had both on trial, and i've got very little to choose between them- anybody on here got any experience/opinion on either??
For me it'd be the over and under, I don't like shooting with side by sides.
the GTI is a fairly well proven Clay gun, though it's nothing particularly special, the winchester is quite far removed from any traditional English sidelock!
All to do with personal choice though, what do you prefer to shoot with at the moment? do you need mutichokes? (I have them on both my guns, but rarely change them)
do you shoot on a traditional British driven pheasant shoot with slightly outdated but long served unwritten rules about what you can use?
The decision.... IS yours!

The other side of the coin...
For me it would be the SBS, I gave up my O/U some 10 years ago and never thought about it since.
None of my guns have multichokes, I consider that if you shoot within the effective range and point in the right place, you should contact the target whatever the choke. I have listened to countless clay bashers blaming everything else for missing; such as chokes, rather than themselves not pointing the gun in the right place.
As Roz says, it is really down to what you feel happy with. As you have had good bags with both, make a decision on which one you would be proud to own.
Let us know which one you choose.

Think i''m probably going to go with the Browning at the moment, although i can't find many websites to compare prices etc. am calling in a gunsmith tomorrow to see what's available in a similar price bracket, but how does £650 sound to you for the second hand (like new condition) Browning GTI Sporting Ultra plus? doesn't sound too far off the mark to me, but i'm probably wrong...

Depends what you want to shoot, O/U are good all rounders and good for clays. I've recently bought a SBS for shooting game and must say I love it, nice and light and easy to swing. As others have said, multi chokes - why! It's something else to worry about.
My guns are fixed choke, I like 'true cylinder' and 'quarter choke [improved cylinder]' for clays and quarter and half for game - suits me. I have Browning O/U - not the model you refer to - and like them, well made. £650 sounds about right but get a copy of Gun Mart and compare prices.

bought the gun mart tonight as it happens- not a single gun like it to be had in the whole mag! Looking increasingly likely to buy it now though.
Agree- can't see me having much use for the multi choke- other than the old saying- a bad workman always blames his tools, and i'll take any excuse for missing!!

I'd go o/u too.
And as said - chokes are just a gimmick to "hook the punters"
fixed choke 1/4 n' 1/2 will cover all your needs.

I agree..i have a Miroukou and the same choke and O/U as well i have tried to get on with S/B/S but find them a labour compared to O/U.
