Central Locking

NEED ADVICE

I have a Land Rover Discovery 1999

My N/S rear passenger door central locking stopped working about a month ago, which I lived with.

Now the rear door has packed in and is a pain, reaching over the rear seats & if the cover is over it really is awkward.

Both locks will lock on the key fob, but wont open.

Any advice gratefully recieved

You would have thought Land Rover sorted this one out with discos starting being made in what 89 -90, as nearly all of them seem to have this problem. Mine need sorting out as well at some point, I have two passenger doors that are going on my 96 disco.

They don't gradually degrade as you describe, the spring breaks........end of!! They either work or they don't.

Yours sounds like a different problem if you're experiencing intermittent operation. This may be solved by a good dose of WD-40.;)

Its time to fix this now,

Where is the best place to get the spring, some say you have to buy lock & all !!

Is it to much pain to sort out & worth throwing money at it at a garage ?

Does anyone have a ruff idea of the cost at a garage.

Only complete locks are available from LR...Very expensive:eek:
You can get the springs off eBay...Sometimes:(
There is a chap in the Discovery club who supplies them, in pairs, with the fitting instructions, for £10.
You will need to find someone in the Discovery owners club, or join yourself to post on their site for help in contacting him.
Replacment is a fiddly job, not difficult though....After a couple of springs have been fitted you will be good enough to do it professionally:D
