Hi everyone,

Recently saw this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRUCKMAN-TOP-CANOPY-FIT-MOST-1-TON-PICKUPS-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ330081941927QQihZ014QQcategoryZ10 8856QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and thought that with a bit of fabrication work it had the makings of an expedition trailer at a fraction of the price of a purpose built one. No its not me selling it, and no I have no plans to go overlanding in the near future so it's of no use to me, but perhaps there's someone out there thinking of this?

Well compared to this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Roof-Tent-Expedition-Trailer-inc-Fridge-land-rover_W0QQitemZ110085752696QQihZ001QQcategoryZ9885 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) its an absolute bargain;)

Hmmm am considering building my own out of a Sankey Trailer....the ex MOD sankey should be a good base for the project..at aroung £250.00 is also a good starting point money wise...you have to bear in mind the cost of all the little extras...rooftop tent (If needed) Fridge, Cooker, batteries and fabrication, steel box section, chequer plate etc...but reckon it would still come in under what Trek Overland are charging and be built to YOUR spec...what do you think

A trailer is a far better idea than adding roof racks, etc to the vehicle.. It keeps the GW of the vehicle sensible too.. And if you really have to, you can unhook the trailer.. crossing weak bridges etc.

mine's in the process of converting...with a Sankey, the possibilties are endless...Cooker.fridge and fold-out tables...the Roof tent is ideal up there and many a question asked about it whilst attending diferent shows, even the wife uses it at weekend Horse shows

^^^^^ Thats exactly the same sankey as i've got!

welcome to the fold.

i completey stripped mine down to the chassis, even dismantled the springs and repainted them (As they'd rusted into solid lumps).

it's good now, just needs a new tub and some decent tyres on it.
