I remember one of the landrover tests was to put it in drive keep foot on brake and floor throttle if it went over 2700rpm the torque conv was faulty and if it would not go over something like 2000rpm engine was faulty!
This is from memory but all the info is on the rave cd available from e-bay.

Jono, might be better telling us what problem you have rather than asking for a confirmation of a diagnosis. You will get much clearer answers rather than loads of guesses.

Is the noise speed related, both road and engine. Is it there when in neutral, when the clutch is pressed or not. Is there any vibration?

Hi Nomad
I would be surprised if it was clutch related...Its an Auto-box:D

Hi it is an auto box,do believe it is the torque converter so need a gear box specialist or a recon box, does anyone know a good specialist or have a recon box 4 sale.

Could be transfer box as they are more likely to be noisy than an auto box.

Check the backplate on the handbrake drum, they sometimes work loose.
