Went to Callender on Sunday where the SLROC were meeting, with every intention of just watching. After a run around the course in a Series 3 took the plunge and took my Discovery round. What can I say but what a fantastic experience and I'd still be there if a Range Rover had not written off a Caravan!:itwasntme
The kids loved it and to my total surprise my wife ended up like a child in a sweetie shop, she's now a total Land Rover fan and wants us to buy an old series 3 to offroad, after the Caravan/ Rangie thing she dosen't want dents in the Disco!

So, was that a Rangie, driving around the off-road course with a caravan on the back??? :dunno1:
Must see pictures of that one.... :p

If only, that would have been fun, but no, the caravan in question belonged to another member of the Club and there were at least i/2 dozen people in it when the Rangie lost control on the hill, spun down and collided with the caravan, which the owner of was very upset as he'd bought it 5 years ago at the princely sum of 15K. Now this leads me to, insurance, bad stewarding, bad driving, and a very bad place to leave your 15K Caravan!

Sounds like a mess no one really would like to sort out, that is for sure... but then as they say, any motor sport, a risk is carried, and somewhere along the line, something will go wrong, maybe not yesterday, maybe not today, but maybe tomorrow...

Do you mean there were people in the caravan whilst it was being towed
What idiot allowed them to drive with passengers in the caravan.
More to the point who was the idiotic driver of the RR .
I'm not surprised there was an accident. It only takes one person to move and the shift of weight can make the caravan unstable. An accident waiting to happen ,i hope no-one was injured.

No no, the caravan was parked up at the bottom of the hill near the Start/Finish area! It was not being towed by the RR that ran into it, it was parked up with awning etc etc, people stayed over the weekend!

People were taking the mick out of me because my Disco was nice & shiny, so I felt obliged to get it dirty but when I looked at the other Disco's they had removed the front valance and had sump guards etc.

Hehe, mines also a Shiny one but do sometimes venture off-road.
Pretty much standard although I have fitted a steering guard, QT front and rear diff guards and my latest one 'Snorkel' Mantec of course.
Thinking about a Tank Guard next, Scorpion racing do a nice one.
But as regards the front valance kept that on and not had any problems, after all they are built for off-road use straight from the factory, its only down to personel choice what you add to it.

Andy
do not know where you go but last 3 times out have scraped valance. We were out greenlaning yesterday and did it again.Found an article on DISCO 2 COM about cutting down the valance without having to take it off http://www.disco2.com/howto/offroader/bumpertrim/
will probably go down the same road as that.

Looks a bit drastic for my liking.
I've been several times to a few off-road courses and done some green laning, scuffed it a few times but nothing major.
I try and take things steady, and watch the route I'm taking.
Worst comes to the worst if it does catch and the damage is pretty bad then it will come off until then will keep it on.

Understand looking at the route to be taken but on the times i've hit something had had no choice.Usually it's the coming down where i've had the problem.I tend to be a bit rough and gungho ,the problem also comes from having a 101FC GS as well to play with so i'm slowly putting on the heavy metal.Steering/diff/ tank guards - side sills ( probably from Scopion) and will look out for a detacable towbar.
We fancy going on a oversea's trip next year so will spend winter/spring kitting the disco out.

The trip sounds good, as for kitting out your Disco don't think you'll go far wrong with Scorpion.
I got my shocks and springs from them, and I'm looking at fitting one of there tank guards (cheapest I've seen). As for he diff guards I'd recommend QT ones bit more expensive than others but fit better.
Enjoy the mods, your wallet won't.

have run out of cash at the moment. So i'll fit what i have got.New fuel tank for 101 due + i have springs /shocks and fuel pump to fit on dead RR as well
That should keep me going for a few w/ends.
Next w/end at Abingdon 4x4 show.Gentle offroad site plus camping +beer and then hitching a ride in my mates 101 amby the following sun on the Lon to Brighton run. Daughter up to see us following weekend and then w/end at mates caravan for the end of season ****up.That means i might start work on the landies in Nov i hope.
