Firstly hello from me, recently purchased a freelander to compliment my lotus elise (which no doubt you all think is a tarts car but neathermind!)

I have a problem with the Freelander, basically it runs rough first thing in the morning, then once its warmed up its fine. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

1.8 petrol ? the coolant temperature sender on those (and other MEMS ECU Rovers) has a tendency to just die .. about 7 quid for a new one so I'd just replace it to be honest ..

Hope that helps, Simon.

Yes 1.8. In fact exactly the same engine as in the lotus. I'll try changing the temp sender, I assume its the blue one? Not sure that this would make it run rough though.

Not sure if it's the blue one .. but if the engine is cold and the ECU doesn't think so then you won't get choke. Remember old cars if the choke cable broke ? rough as anything .. I used to warm up and old mini with my hand under the air filter holding the choke open ! 3 or 4 mins like that and it was just driveable :)

RAVE says it's brown .. pink/black and pink/green wire going to it. Try just swapping for the Lotus one if that's OK from cold ?

For anyone thats interested I seem to have resolved the problem (at least its been ok for the last couple of days). Anyway, the solution was to do the following trick learned from lotus land - dunno exactly what it does but resets something somewhere so thought I'd try it on the freelander:

turn on ignition but do not start engine

Press the loud pedal to the floor and back 5 times

start engine (withour turning of ignition)

and thats it. Hoping it stays sorted.

Nice one. Must reset something in the MEMS fuel ECU as it's a clever self-learning job isn't it.

Hope it stays good for you now then

Cheers.
