Right I've brought a couple of things on ebay - worked that out all by myself (clever arn't I). But am now wanting to sell some stuff and am now really confused.
I've got myself a sellers account on ebay, and also have got myself a paypal account (used it to pay for the things I've brought).
Now I understand that to sell something all I need to do is add it and it'll appear on ebay to sell. However, as I understand it I cannot accept paypal, unless I get verified? Is this correct. So can I carry on, but only accept cheques/cash for the things to sell?
I've asked about this verification thing, as my name doesn't match exactly on my cheque book and current account. Account is first name last name, cheque book is Mr Initials Surname - and if I get it wrong they charge me 14 quid
Oh why is it all so confusing:(
P.S. Whilst I try and figure it all out, I'll post in the for sale section - not Land Rover related I'm afraid - general stuff.

You need to get verified to be able to accept credit card payments via paypal.. ..some people "load" their paypal accounts with money direct from their banks where others "load" the account with money from a debit or credit card and this is the type that requires you to be verified if I remember correctly. As to you receiving checques or postal orders ........ as long as they have some form of your name on then you can pay them into your account and the bank should not be able to charge you for this....... unless I misread what you were saying:confused:

There are three levels of Paypal membership IIRC.
Basic - you can accept a paypal payment which the buyer is funding from a bank account. You can aslo accept, I think, a limit of three payments which the buyer is funding from a credit or debit card. This level doesn't require you to provide any ID beyond your username and perhaps address
Premium - you can accept payments funded in any way. However there is a limit of xx pounds per month and xx pounds per year that you can send. So if you don't link your Paypal account to a bank account, but instead you are siphoning your money off to another Paypal account, or buy other stuff on Ebay, you can only do that for so long before you reach your limit.
Verified - you give over your bank details and link the bank to your Paypal, then you can do what you like :D
If you are concerned about mismatched details between your bank account and your paypal, just open a new paypal account, and name it to match your bank account name

Oh and no, you don't need to use Paypal as a payment method. You can sell and just let people pay in cash or cheque.

I'm verified and only have my credit card registered with Paypal, no chance of my bank account being plundered if it gets hacked. ;)
All I had to do was register a card with Paypal, they charge £1.00 to your card, when the next statement comes through there will be a 3 figure code on the PayPal payment, enter this code into the verification page and you get your £1 credited back to your PayPal account.
The only drawback is that you can't make any transactions until you enter the code so it means waiting until the statement arrives.
I used to accept cheques but with so many fakes around I now only accept PayPal or Postal Orders as payment.
Postal Orders are good cos you can send the item as soon as you have the cash in your hands, no waiting around. ;)

You don't need a bank account to open a Paypal account. But if you are accepting electonric payments (ie that's what paypal is :D ), you will need to have somewhere to transfer the electronic funds into ;)

The most important thing to know about paypal is that thay take 4% of your cash yes, 4% in handling charges when someone pays you. They also take on average eight days to transfer funds into your bank account. paypal is entirely owned by eBay. To become verified paypal pays to small amounts of money into your bank account 2p / 4p ect. You then have to enter these amounts on the verification page link; you are allowed to keep these tiny payments as a gift! They will also phone you with the number you supplied on joining by automated reply with a verification code that you also have to enter, this is to combat fraud.
