Anyone got a vice that they want to get rid of, has to be fairly heavy duty. It needs to be up to squishing bushes in:)

They are as rare as hens teeth, but I want one too please :)

There are a couple of Blacksmiths Leg Vices on ebay at the moment. Very heavy duty vices, will take anything you throw at them.
Heres a link

I want to get rid of my vice (smoking) pretty heavy duty about a pack a day:eek:
I've got 1 going to waste in the garden. I'll give it a rub down with grease later & see if I can bare to part with it. It's about 3ft long, probably a Blacksmiths or farmers, not the sort you can fit neatly on a work bench.

ah! looking at the pictures i'm not sure that it'd open wide enough :(
OK... now I'm more than a little curious.
What is it you intend to grip & have you thought of using other old fashioned ways of holding objects firm.
Rope & sticks can do a good job on many things.
I'll see if I can make it move tomorrow & measure the jaws. Not that I'm at all mechanically minded but I would think you could adapt it with a spot welder & some dead metal.
PS... I've got another big one under the stairs.. as in heavy, opens about 5 or 6 inches.. I wouldn't want to part with that one permanently though. It's more average vice looking.

I'm after a vice to squash bushes in with and to squease UJ's in. also vices are handy to have when welding bits together. I appreciate you looking alice.. Cheers ;)
Mmm... time for my lay down now. Ok I did read your 1st post, but it slipped my mind altogether when you said you wanted something bigger :D
A Record No 2 opens almost 5 1/2" inches.

I've seen these you really need a solid bench to mount them on and a good footing
I dont think the jaw gap may be enough
If your really stuck use a bottle jack sideways between to solid points like a solid door frame

This link gives you all the info on how to mount them

Cool little link. My other half said he thought it fixed to the back of a tractor to carry out work in the field.
Wish I'd brought the other lumps of iron from my Grandpa's workshop now :( Not that I'd ever use them but seems a shame to know they were dumped after he died.

my dad's got a huge vice in his barn it's never been mounted to anything due to it's dead weight....I want his but he wont give it up :D
How about rehoming a seriously heavy metal frame non table thing I've got in the old duckhouse. If you gave it a rub & painted red oxide metal stuff they do bridges & chassis with then it could withstand living outside & you could attach your welding bits to it.
I likes metal... but not like salad fingers :D

whats it look like alice sounds interesting :)
Frame.. still looks sound, has remained dry & already seems to be painted of sorts. It measures 50x 55x 60cm.
Vice still works fine. I've had a wonderful time rubbing half a bottle of gear oil into the metal. So even if you don't want it at least it should survive a few more yrs. I'm going to give it a bit of a buff & regrease the thread now.
