Don't be afraid to ask!
High ratio is for on road or normal easy use, Forrestry Comission Roads etc. Low ratio is for use on rough terrain, max speed is about 20 - 25, try not to use this! You will find first low almost too low to pick away in, most of the time I use low 2 or 3. When faced with steep descents or climbs I tend to use low 2 or 3 and let the engine gently climb you up or lower you down at near idle revs. Do not use too much power in Low 1st or 2nd!
Neutral is what it says, box basicaly disconnected. There can be problems shifting between high and low ratios. Easiest I have found is to bel moving at about 5mph and then depress the clutch, move and hold the change lever and release the clutch. I have found that if you are stationary then somtimes you do not engage fully and can jump out of box to neutral. Needless to say, this can be embarrasing in some circumstances.
Oh...........BTW Welcome to the forum.

The LNH lever will also move to the side - this is centre differential lock and should only be used off road . NEVER on tarmac or you will do your transmission a power of no good. Make some inquiries locally and see if ther is a local Land Rover club they will steer you right. Don't be embarrassed to ask questions - we all had to learn, and you will soon be able to take the P*** out of newer newbies!

The nice thing about living with Series Landys is that it is all colour coded ie, the big yellow Smartie lets you play in the snow, and the big red Smartie gets you over a King Size Mars Bar:p
Sorry - too much Ale again - time for bed! GOODNIGHT:hahaha:
cheers, Tim

In that case, moving the lever sideways will start the Hoover and he will have a nice clean Landy, but will still be stuck!
