I have a 1994 200tdi Disco. The clutch has all of a sudden gone soft (not much pressure when pressing the pedal) and the biting point is an inch from the floor! I have looked at what the haynes manual says about a soft pedal and nothing seems to be as per the manual suggests! (leaks, slave cynlinder failure etc.)

Prior to this the clutch was right up high.

Has it just self adjusting due to the clutch wearing or is the clutch on it's way out?

Any ideas will be much appreciated!

Sudden failure like that is most likely to be hydraulic. Have someone depress the pedal while you watch the slave cylinder move, it should move progressively as soon as the pedal is pushed. Seals in the slave are the most common failure of this sort, and fortunately the easiest and cheapest to fix :yay:

Could be a number of other things, but I would advise starting from the slave.
