Further to my last, symptoms as below:
- Engine turns over, when in gear and pushed, therefore not engine sieze
- water / oil levels fine
- starter motor just clicks when ignition is turned, nothing more
- electrical systems all fine (lights etc)
is it the starter motor?

It sounds to me like the starter solenoid contacts have burned out, quite a common thing, these can be bought and fitted easily by a basic mechanic but first check that you have power to the starter when you turn the key. If you do.......
1. Disconnect the battery -ve
2. Remove the starter (battery feed, solenoid lead 2 bolts & 1 nut)
3. Remove the end plate of the solenoid (3 small bolts 6 or 8mm)
4. Withdraw the plunger revealing the contacts below.
5. Check the contact surfaces for signs of pitting/regression and the conical face of the plunger for the same and replace if necessary. (replace all together 2 contacts 1 plunger!!)
6. As per a Haynes Manual "Refit is the reverse of removal"
Replacement parts are available from a vehicle electrical supplier but not LR!!!!?
Costs about £20 - £25, better than £250 for a new starter.
