Has anyone any experience of the Tune-It piggyback chip?. My local Garage (who used to rally a lot) has recommended it as opposed to remapping . Any comments would be appreciated

Have been trying Tunit-it chip on Series 2 Disco. Not havinga great deal of success. Initially it was giving more power and torque:D but then when I was driving gently It was becoming rough when just cruising along. Chip has been back and forward to tune-it but they don't seem to be able to do anything and the garage suggests that something may be wrong with my car, but it goes OK without chip, just not as fast:(. anyone had similar problems/ It was second-hand off another Series 2 , and I haven't evenpaid for it yet, so the garage has been very good, but I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem. Any sugs? Grant

I would imagine that any remap of the engine requires some adjustment in the engine compartment.

If you adjust the contrast on your telly, you need to adjust the colour and B/W to counteract the change in contrast

I can see where you are coming from, but I understand that the chip makes all the necessary changes.

Personnally I would not bother with a plug in box.... it is basically a bodge method of tuning.
It simply fools the engine into injecting more fuel (by various methods) - not always at the correct time. Which can lead to various problems and faults.

Some plug in boxes are nothing more than a few resistors ;)

But each to their own.....

Going back to your problem:

What model year is your Disco??
What model year was the 'tune-it' box for?? (i.e. what car did it come off?)

Not all Td5's are the same - the main change is pre and post 2002 model year.

If some one fitted a box to my car... and then cannot offer any explanation to why it won't work, or even fix it... I'd be slightly dubious. But that's just me.

Personnally, I will not (out of choice) remap a Td5 without first doing a full diagnostic check - as there is no point remapping a car that has faults... and is possibly already down on power from standard.
If you car has faults, you will often find with a remap (or more so a plug in) the fault will be amplified (even to the extent you will not notice it when the car is in standard form)

By rough... do you mean misfiring?? Has your MIL (engine warning light) come on??
It could be something as daft as it's hitting the overboost limit when fitted with the box.
