I'm getting rattle/vibration on mild acceleration on my '99 TD5 auto. Under hard acceleration and kickdown it sounds fine, ease off the throttle and it's OK, but accelerate gently and there's a slightly metallic sounding rattle. Never heard this on my previous V8i auto. Anybody got ideas?

Where does the rattle sound to come from?

I have a similar noise (also a TD5 Auto) at around 2.2k - 2.5k revs, but only when very cold. This sounds to come from around the Exhaust front box. It stops after about 10 mins of driving (i.e. once warmed up).

At my last service I asked the garage to look into this noise, their response after looking was that it is a common noise for this type.

Could be the same?

Yes I would say it happens 2-2.5k revs as well. I'll keep an eye on whether it's only when engine warm. Only had it a week and haven't had chance to give it a decent run yet.

Cheers

Hi
I also have a vibration/hashness at 2.2 to 2.5 K revs on my TD5 auto. Gets better when warm but always there. Told by local expert (who's really good) that it is normal.

Mine currently has a rattle that sounds like its coming from the front exhaust - sounds like a tinny sort of hollow exhaust rattle(not easy to describe noises is it).
I'm guessing its the CAT breaking up inside its casing - havent lost any performance so not to bothered about it at ths stage.
