Hi

Looking for a F/Lander diesel for the other half and after testing driving a TD4 we would love one. However, we may not be able to afford one as they hold their value abit to well. (Or I am trying to spend as little as possible as I might be able to afford a exMod 90 too, but don't tell the boss!!!)

I have started looking at the Di's now and was wondering if anyone had an knowledge on the performance difference?

I know everyone's raving about the TD4 but how much of the difference is there between the two? One LR dealer described the Di as very tractor like!!!!

Can you buy the add on eletronic gadgets for the Di to improve performance???

Thx

Well I've got a Di and I'd thoroughly recommend it .. my cousin has a TD4 and if anything mine's quieter once it's warmed up, but probably noisier when cold. Comparably the performance difference you would never notice (it's about torque not bhp with diesels and IIRC they are practially the same torque) and I think the Di has a flatter torque curve starting lower down.

One clue is that I had a hell of a job finding a Di when I was looking 3 months ago, but dealers had TD4's through all the time. So either there aren't many Di's out there, or people hang onto them. I know more people with Di's than TD4's though ..

Mine has covered over 90k miles now and is still pretty sweet, goes well and does 34mpg regularly on a pretty nasty commuting run. A friends '99 model without aircon returns 36-40mpg for him.

I was in the same boat as you, I'd have like a V6 auto converted to LPG but couldn't afford it. The 1.8 was out as I needed a gutsy towcar, so it was TDi or nothing ! I bought one private in the end and have been very happy with it.

HTH, Simon.

Never driven the Di but the numbers point to the TD4 being slighly quicker.

Real World - it's in your own experience and which you like driving.

Both the Di and the TD4 can be chipped...JE Engineering offer a chip as do many others (JE seem to be crap at replying to e-mail enquiries btw!) Superchips offer a warranty on failures directly attributed to the chipping procedure.

If you chip it (and even if you don't IMHO) you should drain and replace the oil (and filter) half way between services which will help keep the motor healthy.

I'm chopping in my 2002 TD4 for a 2004 TD4, the dealer is probably going to give me some horrendously crap price for it so PM me what your budget it is and i'll tell you if it matches up :)

2002 TD4 ES, Silver, 14.5K miles, tinted windows, FLRSH etc...
