Hi all
I am hopefully soon to be a Freelander owner, bringin "er indoors "around to the dealers tomorrow to look at a shining example of a 2001 1.8 ES.All my friends say to keep away from the Freelanders and to be honest after reading some of the reviews on the web I am beginning to get cold feet.Any advice at all would be much appreciated by the way the Freelander in question has 78,000 miles seems to be running extremely well slight bit of seepage around the rocker cover, oil looks good and cosmetically perfect ,sun roof does stick a little though. The dealer (not official) has said as he has no previous history of the car that he will replace the head gasket before it leaves as part of the deal even though it doesn,t need to be done at the moment.I have fallen for the looks of this car but just can,t afford a nightmare again any advice good or bad would be of great help.Thanks.

Look on the freelander section for potential problems. If the head gasket is being sorted then one of the most expensive problems should have been sorted. Have a look underneath to make sure that there are drive shafts to the front and rear axles (honestly) It is a common "quick" cure to remove a drive shaft when the IRD fails.

Have a look on the mad freelanders website to see the capabilities of the freelander :)
