Has anyone any idea if it is good or bad to fit a none standard air filter to a TD4 auto, I was thinking of the bearmach pro--something, will it make any difference or am I just wasting money?
thanks for now.:)

Thought about putting a K & N in my L series diesel, but have been told that without palying with the fuel pump settings it won't make any difference, plus a couple of people have said that they found they needed cleaning a lot more often than K & N said.

Having a K&N myself I think the only benefit is that it lasts the life of the car. Further I have my doubts whether the oil in the filter won't damage the MAF (mine went bananas a couple of weeks after the K&N was installed, might be coļncidence but other people noticed the same phenomenae, cleaned/oiled mine end last year and so far no problems though).

Thanks for the replies, but I am still a bit confused, what are the "supposed" benefits? better mpg, power etc etc etc.
also is a K&N filter the same as the Bearmach I was talking about.
Cheers.:)

Not sure of course but I guess that such a replacement filter to put in the airbox is not of great help to improve performances or mpg, not as far as I can see (notice) at least. I heard that K&N and alikes give only real benefits when the entire inletsystem is modified/adapted which for a diesel is of minor importance, it's more for petrolengines I think.

I added a K&N to my manual TD4 - £50 could've been spent on something more useful IMO... no improvement in performance.

You're better off spending your money on a re-map.. Guaranteed power increases, which normally means more MPG.

I had my Vectra 1.9CDTi re-mapped to 205bhp.. mpg wnet up from 48 to 52mpg... and I don't spare the horses!

I can recommend www.celtictuning.co.uk who did mine.
