1997 300tdi I have a what feels like a loose wheel bearing rear.
it feels there is to much play side to side ? is it a major job or can I just tighten the bearing as we used to do with are mini's back in the 70's
any advice would be very welcome

Disco wheel bearings are just like Series ones, you can even use the same box spanner.....
.....however, I'd be sure of my/your diagnosis first.
Have you jacked it up and given it a wiggle? (excuse me!? :) )
(Continuing with the school boy humour) Looseness in the rear doesn't have to be a wheel bearing. Could be suspension bushes for a start.

Thanks Andy
Its raining buti f it stops I will jack her up so to speak!!
And look for the free play.
When I tighten the wheel bearing end nut do you know if I have to back it off after tightening it, or at what torque on the old T wrench needs to be set cheers Paul vp uk (Hereford)

sounds like a wheel bearing, just tighten it up until it's firm and no you don't need to back it off. Before giving it a wiggle to test it, remeber to loosen off the brake pads by pushing them back in, otherwise it will give a false sense of tightness!
