hi, thought i would create another thread as no1 is replying to my other.

recently my 52 freelander TDI broke down, its been at the mechanics, they have replaced both pumps, one of the injectors.
now, it starts first time most of the time but mid day the other day it had a bit of trouble getting going, it started up and then it cut out again,
and when it starts it seems to be running on 3 by the sounds and vibrations.
also there seems to be quite a bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust.

today we went on a road with quite a few hills, it didnt like the hills atall, it had very little power to get up them and when you dropped a gear to get up it in the higher revs it produced quite a bit of smoke.
would this be because it is only firing on 3 so the extra fuel is just going into the exhaust and burning in there?

got any ideas of what it could be?
thanks:(

Have you checked all the turbo air hoses?
I think the one from the intercooler to the turbo can wear and blow.
Also check all the hose clips are good and tight.

Check the Interooler while the pipes are off, they are prone to filling with oil.

it seems to be getting better, the mechanic did say to give it a couple of hundred miles to let it all settle but i thought he was just fobbing us of.
could it be posibble that it just needs a couple of hundred miles?
