hi got a funny clank sound from rear diff area or middle under freelander
took prop off shoul it still run ornot as mine does not are they rear wheel drive sure i read somebody was running with no prop had a new engine fitted last year bye LR they said rest of freelander looked ok no bits missing any idea what this clanck may be it happens most when putting power on and off

The clank its the front rubber mount of the rear differential. Theyre prone to fail, easy to replace.

It should still run as the freelander is baised to the front wheels. Taking the propshaft and V.C. off only removes the drive to the rear diff/rear wheels, so it would become a front wheel drive vehicle and still move, or try to move if the rear diff is seized!

Confirm what Richard says. I ran mine without a prop last year whilst waiting for the VCU bearings to be replaced.
No problems other than a bit more oversteer on corners!

nothing seizsd back wheels turn very easy when off floor what i happed took prop of to try find clank noise as i read they are front weel drive but put into gear then clutch up an noehing happened as in did not move

If it does move with the props on, then the gearbox and clutch are OK, take the props off and it doesn't move, either a CV or the shaft through a front hub, the drive in the IRD intermediate shaft or the front diff has failed.
Get the oil checked for swarf or grey oil.
If you can have a look, see if a front driveshaft turns when the clutch is released, in gear.
