Hi all I could do with a little help
I have just bought a 300tdi auto discovery and sometimes the accelerator just wont work as if it is not connected to anything, but if you put it into drive and back to park the accelerator will start to work again with no problems?
Has anybody got any ideas?

It isn't connected on an Auto, Jez, it's "Fly by wire".

Chris is right, its a fly by wire system. The only way to diagnose it properly is to put it on Testbook and see whats going on,look at stored faults and more importantly view live data from the throttle pedal.
The good thing to remember is that this is a VERY reliable system which is why I use one as a work truck,(Too busy fixing other LR's to mess with my own) but the downside is that some components are not cheap. The throttle pot is not cheap, neither is having the pump rebuilt.(If you can find a fuel room willing to do it.)
Good luck,I hope there is a decent independant near you.
