I have a 1999 TD5 Discovery. It is fitted with the radio in the picture. This radio has CD control and works from controls on the steering wheel as well as on the head unit itself. I have no CD player under the seat and it doesn't look like there ever was one. Can anyone identify what radio/cassetteCD head unit this is please and advise what CD auto changer I need to go with this, plus incidentals, like a loom?
Cheers

It wwould appear to be a R960 head unit. I think the CD unit is an Alpine unit but the word is that they can be a tad unreliable

Andy,
I fitted a sony head unit and CD changer in my 99MY DII because it was cheaper to buy than the Alpine CD changer. Autoleads.co.uk supply wiring harnesses for sony head units so you can retain the steering wheel mounted controls. If I was doing it now ,I'd buy a sony headunit that plays MP3's and forget about the CD changer because you can fit alot of music on a CD in MP3 format!!

I've just fitted a Sony unit that plays MP3s (cost about 75squid from Halfords). It fitted straight in with no adapter or wiring modifications but I don't have the steering wheel remote control. I took the unit out and took it into the shop so that I could see how the harness would fit.

I am looking at a CD changer at the moment on e bay. The part number is AMR 3154 although the web doesn't clarify if this is an Alpine XQE100240 CD autochanger which is what I need. The wiring is in place under the seat so plug and go! However, as you say very pricey brand new. I have to say that I want to retain the steering wheel controls so whatever I buy must be compatible. If I buy a Sony head unit then with an adapter cable can I retain the steering wheel functions?

I dont think thats a 960 head as they are the same shape as the dash ie no step, but the 960 is std on ES models which have the cd player

Looking at the piccy in the manual it looks like the 960. However, as with all things Landrover, looks can be deceiving.

Check out the Land Rover section at this site. If nothing else, they have a lot of good information.
