Hi all
After the disco 300TDI ES Auto recently lost all get up and go and after replacing all the usual suspects at the cheaper end of the scale ( sender unit, lift pump, fuel filter, fuel lines) I think the time has now come to tear down the engine to see if the timing marks and belt are all in line still.
Do I need to buy the specific timing locks or has anybody who has tackled this found any substitutes, bearing in mind it is an auto.
Any tips greatly appreciated, Cheers:)

10mm drill bit can be used as a locking pin for the Injector pump. The crank and cam sprockets have their own timing marks both on the sprockets themselves and the rear timing case.
300TDi cam belt replace:-

I have done as Les has and always used drill bits, cheap way to make crank timing pin is to buy a PCL 1/4 inch male fitting that goes in the air tools cut of the stub so that all you are left with is the threaded bit this fits in to bottom of the flywheel housing, find a snug fitting drill bit that fits into the pcl fitting and locate into the slot in the flywheel.
Used this way for years.
