I have an interesting problem with my TD5. For about 5 miles after I start it up the auto box makes the engine run at between 2500 and 3000rpm when I am doing 60mph. If I downshift manually to 3rd the revs increase as expected to above 3000rpm. Then, all of a sudden, when everything has warmed up nicely the revs drop to about 2200rpm. After that everything seems normal.

What is going on? Is that normal? It is almost as if the torque converter lock up kicks in when it feels like it.

As an aside I have an instrument pack from a UK manual Disco II fitted to an Australian auto Disco II. It isn't configured to be an auto so I don't get the S / M lights or the functionality of those modes or the shift indicator in the dash. Is that an easy problem to fix? The Aussies couldn't do it as they said it was a UK spec one and weren't issued with the right software.

Any help appreciated.

That's not a problem,that's how they are.

In winter,mine won't go above 30 until I get out of the village,however hard I rev it.(So I don't:) )
