I have a 2002 Disco that has performed outstanding for 25K miles, except for an annoying high pitched brake squeal at low speeds. When I apply the brakes at speeds of 5mph - 30mph, I can hear a high pitched squeal.
Dealer says it is due to the metallic brake pads and that dust builds up on the brakes. Nothing they can do, except to advise hitting the brakes hard at 40mph once a week to shake off the dust.
Any other ideas????
Sounds dubious to me, sounds more like they ain't got a clue and are giving you a load of old coblers,

I thought the same thing. The nose is very subtle, but annoying. :dunno1:

I had similar problems with my Rover after it had new pads fitted, after I ran it for about six months, I checked the pads again, one side had worn down faster than the other, seems the garage had not cleaned the brakes up when they changed the pads, so it had been sticking on slightly.
I also suspect the garage had put cheap pads on, after I replaced the pads with proper branded ones, cleaned the pistons etc with brake cleaner, it has had no noise at all. Makes me think it is easy to do some jobs yourself these days, that way you can take your time and do it correctly.
