hi all my disco has developed a coolant fault when i was driving on the motorway today i noticed the temp gauge was in the red so exited asap as i got to the end of the slip road the engine just died so i left it to cool down and checked the coolant levels as i unscrewed the cap a lot of steam or gas escaped followed by the coolant.went and got some water filled her back up started her up and after 5 min there was coolant coming out of the cap on the tank stoped as soon as i stopped engine does this sound like the head gasket? cheers for any answers

update just removed cylinder head.found water in middle two cylinders corresponding head bolts we're very easy to release no sign of damage to gasket.when i bought the disco the guy said that it had a rebuild recently is it possible that they hav'nt tightend the bolts up properly?.going to get my uncle to have a look he's a mechanic will post more when i have news.

Might need a whole new head. Mine did exactly the same, Replacing just the gasket was a waste of time and effort.

It's possible that someone didn't tighten the bolts in the right sequence or to the right torque. The sequence starts in the centre of the head, so someone messed-up. You should still get the head crack tested and the gasket face checked before assembling it all.
