just done my first oil change on my 300tdi. good old british design puts a bar right where the oil squirts out from, consequently covering the road in oil (and me as well).
any tips for future reference on how to avoid this, and whats the best way to get oil off tarmac

Use a piece of bent metal or plastic gutter and deflect the oil into the bucket.
Use detergent, washing up liquid or washing powder.

drain plug thing very carefull about fitting one of those
I'am not going to knock the company it could be a excellent idea and a first class product using good quatity materials
There was a similar product sold some years ago for DIY car mechanic market, read about someone who fiitted one
then while travelling a speed the o ring broke the thing leaked oil very quickly speading oil it all over a wet road, his engine a write off in minutes
Then the pasting cars started to skid on the road and a minor accident occured the plods closed the road for safety reasons but spotting him broken down put 2 & 2 together and his insurance ended up paying for the damage and clean up
read about it in one of those insurance in house mags, yes it was a modification so he was not covered but would'nt be anyhow, i think they paid up on 3rd party
