loss of power

Hi I'm new to the site and this is my first Disco,
I bought a 1995 300TDI 2.5
I traveled from Cardiff to Liverpool, after 90 miles I was going along at around 65MPH and I lost all power it was as though my accelleration cable had snaped
any how after a cold sweat on the hard shoulder I just put it into gear and away it went not another problem for the rest of the journey
any ideas what it could of been
102,000 on the clock last service 91,000 full history up to then
says timing belt changed 72,000 please help
have I bought a problem?

On the rear of the injection pump there is a wire to a round cylinder shape, check the terminal isn't loose or the wire isn't rubbing through. That is the engine stop solenoid.
