Our L Reg Disco I 3.5 V8 efi automatic, has a warning light come on...We haven't got an owners manual so can't look up what it is. Can anyone help?

It is a cog shape with a temperature sign in the middle and lights up red.

This light sometimes comes on with the handbrake light too.

Any ideas? :)

Can't tell you exactly, but cog normally means transmission, temperature sign normally means it's too hot, so I guess your transmission oil is cooking, or the sensor is faulty. Does it have a transmission filter that could be blocked? Is there enough oil in it?

Hows the rebuild coming?

Thanks for your reply Straw Man, you were bang on the money with the idea of the sensor failing.

The rebuild is coming on great thanks. New chassis arriving on
Monday :D almost fully stripped old chassis ready.

Cheers :)

That light is driven by the ECU for the autotransmission, so it means there's a fault of some sort.

If its shifting ok then it might be something simple, like low oil level? Might be worth doing a fluid drain and refill? I got another 12 months out of a malfucntioning Ford Scorpio tranny once, by draining fluid, then removing the pan and giving it a good clean. Some people remove the valve block too, but I wimped out of that!

Best of luck
