I've read all the forum advice and tips, and today bought my first ever Land Rover, a June 1992 J reg 3 door Discovery Tdi200 with 114,000 miles. All the documents support the mileage. It was dealer serviced up to 90,000 miles and since then by an independant ex-Land Rover engineer. It has a one year old new (not refurb) gear box and clutch and refurb. power steering box. All 5 tyres 1 year old, 4000 miles only. Rear sunroof dosn't leak, boot is fine. New this year is the front sunroof. All looks fine undernearth and engine bay looks good. No sign of any oil/fluid leaks. Inside fine as seats have proper covers and Land Rover mats. Everything works as it should.

Has full length roof rack and boot sliding cover.

Cost (has 12 months MOT with no advisories and 2 moths tax) £1,200.

I am sitting here feeling Very Very pleased with myself.
Many thanks to the forum for all the advice, I appreciate it.

I have bought a Disco after whetting my whistle with a Freeby :) and I love it - only problem so far was a fuel pressure regulator leak which was a "fiddly" job to replace. If you are shorter in stature then in addition to a decent socket set, I would advise something solid to stand on. I honestly don't know how Nobber gets on. Perhaps he does his Tom Cruise - Mission Impossible bit and uses ropes to suspend himself whilst he is working in the engine bay;)
