The EGR valve vacuum pipe is missing from my '97 Disco 300TDi. I have checked and it hasn't just become disconnected and flopping about the engine bay anywhere.
I know the basic principle of EGR, but:
a) What purpose does the vacuum pipe fulfil and to what should it connect?
b) Is the EGR valve functioning without it?
Also, can anyone help out with the part number please?
Cheers

a, egr solenoid should be on the nearside inner wing pipe goes from this to the egr valve
b,no!
pipe i have always used is 3.2mm id evailable from any motor factor
Probably been removed and binned which is a common mod.

Thanks Lynall.
Is this the thing sitting next to / underneath the chock with a connection to the air filter housing? If so, should there really be a pipe from there that seems to vanish into the bulkhead behind the washer bottle? There doesn't seem to be any connections missing so I guess it must be flapping about somewhere after all.
Working at the moment so I can't go out and check.
Cheers
from the 3 are
1. EGR valve
2. Air cleaner (atmospheric pressure)
3. Vacuum pump (probably via a tee piece on the pipe from the pump to brake diaphragm)
hope this helps
