View Full Version : Discovery 300tdi handling badly
I bought a discovery (N reg) two weeks ago. One shock absorber was broken off so had 4 new monroe shocks put on. It still handles badly, it drifts across the road when it hits a small bump or drain cover etc. Not a relaxing way to travel! Any guidance much appreciated. Not had a Land rover before, (apart from an old series 3 once) but didn't expect it to be so bad on the road.

Check for wear in the front steering ball joints, and the swivel housing bearings. Also check that the steering box isnt needing adjustment.

take a look at the panhard rod bushes too, get underneath and get someone to shake the steering, as said feel all the joints and bushes 1st. cheers alan.....
I had the tracking checked, and they adjusted the steering and things have improved slightly. Some people have said that Discoveries do drive like that, but I reckon it's worth trying to put it right. Will check the other things you've suggested and see how we get on. Thanks for the help.

Remove bolt from the end of steering damper then push and pull it across the full length of travel, needs to be smooth all the way, any sticky points replace it, if still no good swivels will want setting up.

Is it your first 4X4 if so, "they all do that sir"
I can shift along quite nicely in mine, just took a few hundred miles to adjust...
