Afternoon all
I'm now considering putting a CB in the beast for laning ect.. oh and Buttonmonkey's always leaving his indicators on!:D
Anyhoo, after reading a previous post I'm probably going to go to Thunderpole, partly because my shopping basket has everything I need in it already.
I've gone for the silver Roadcom and an Orbitor antenna.
Question A: Will these be any good?
Question B: Where will I stick my antenna? I recently went laning and 1 particular lane was litterally a small tube the size of a Landrover. I lost paint from my roof so having it up there is out.
I thought about putting it either a front wing but as tree wire's aren't road legal I'm not sure if these would be.
Or somewhere on the back, not sure where though.
Can someone help please? Pics would also be a great help & give me some ideas
Cheers all

My antenna is found on the front bumper with a mag mount, see this post for a pic

Great pics!
Have you had any probs with having your antenna there? I.E. Do you get much movment when you're cornering?
Also did you fit those bumperettes specifically for that purpose or were they already there?
Cheers

I've got this one (http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=753). The base base is below the roof and the flexible part of the aerial will take any knocks. It's also far away from the engine. Been laning many times with this set up with no problem at all.

Thanks AJ
Does being away from the engine make much difference?

AdeUsually get interference from petrol engines (suppressors required) but I've had a 'whine' that went up and down with revs on a diesel (Disco) and interference from the wiper motors.

To be quite honest if all you want to use the CB radio for communication in a small convoy of vehicles then mount a small antenna inside the vehicle. I know it might sound daft, and it means you can't show off your posh new 'twig', but in a situation where you only need to communicate 100 yards at the most it will do fine and no worry of damage:)

I'd fit it inside if I thought the kids wouldn't mess around with it.

Stick the kids on the roof:D
TBH Alane, you only need a really basic aerial system to communicate in a small convoy whilst out greenlaning, just a small thing on the top of a front wing would be fine. OK you might get some interference, but, over the few yards that you will be communicating you can just squelch the noise out and it will work fine:)

Bumperettes were there already, and yes it does waggle about a fair bit off road, not so bad on roadf, but then again it does not see any great corenering speed :)
With regards to interference, not had any from the truck.. But its an old FFR so has some suppresion and such on it I guess. Also whilst on the treasure hunt it was good to be able to talk to other members who were not in my convoy! But I suppose that is a bit different to normal laning :)

I'd like to get involved in the Treasure hunts later on when my boy is a bit older. I can also see laning trips out with larger groups so we'll probably need to split into seperate groups.
It'd be nice to keep in contact with the other groups as, on some of the local lanes the are no areas to pass each other for about a mile or so.
Wouldn't like to be the one reversing!!:D
