Hi there, need to get a clutch kit for my 300tdi disco, just wondering whether the Borg & Beck kit that Paddocks sell for £59 odd is likely to be any good, or is it worth the extra £££ for the OE kit (around £85).

Also Paddocks only seem to stock one kit for both 200/300TDI whereas the OE kits seem to differ??

B&B are what all the 'experts' on here and elsewhere told me to fit. I got the Paddocks one. Paddocks only list a heavier one for the 130tdi. Save some money

If you do any towing or drive off road, then fit a 130 clutch plate. They are slightly larger diameter and have two extra shock springs in them. They are compatible with the normal clutch cover and thrust bearing, but are heavy duty. Borg & Beck are a very good make of clutch, but the 130 plate is only made by Valeo. You should also replace the clutch fork with a reinforced item.

Sounds like a stupid question but it's not going to cause the mech any more grief to fit than the normal part is it? Only I'm not going to be doing it (would do but it's a bit out of my league!), and am going to be a bit pressed for time before needing to set off....

200/300TDi clutch thrust bearing - FTC5200/FRC9568R
130 clutch plate - FTC1994
200/300 TDi clutch cover - URB100760

Looks like paddocks don't sell the clutch parts as seperate items except the thust bearing.
Bearmch do.

There is no additional or different work in fitting the 130 clutch plate.

Thanks Les, most helpful, will order the parts later today. The parts on the Paddocks site are very confusingly labelled sometimes it seems, for example here are some of the different descriptions given for FTC5200:

FTC5200 - Clutch Release Bearing - self centering - all 4cyl Diesel except 130 300TDI
FTC5200 - Clutch Release Bearing - self centering 130 300TDI

Confused?? I was!

I don't know of any comapnies that sell reinforced clutch forks. You usually buy a standard item and reinforce it yourself, or get someone who can weld do it. I do them, but it's to promote another website.

What a busted one looks like and what you do to strengthen it.
