My daughter student nurse had her 2nd year quote from a company called "Endsleigh" the student one, been a young driver and under 20 as expected the quote who she was with was high at round £495, 3rd party fire & theft, for a small hatch.
Knowing she might get a better quote rang around, tried the tinerernet etc, spent all day and got a few round the £350 mark, but all with other companies resulting in extra hassle changing, providing proof of non claims etc., so rang endsliegh back to see if get a better deal.
Told if go though "new bussiness" the quote dropped to about £390 so she went with them, later in the week got loads of calls asking he to ring back, she did expecting a problem, no it was not it was the "existing renewal" department asking why she did not go with them, she explained she gone with "new dept" Then the "bombshell" if she cancelled the new and went with existing it would be cheaper at £349, and they wanted to tell her that, so who has heard of a company which rings you up and saves you money.
But why not quote that price in the first place ?

Probably because bonuses/commissions are based on number and value of sales/renewals.

Both our vehicles come up for renewal in mid August. For years I have been accepting the renewal price but this year I had a look around and saved nearly £100 :)
It definately pays to shop around.
Now with the AA by the way

My landy insurance remained the same this year.. so i left it. Impreza is up at the end of the year.. should get a much cheaper quote as I was stuck with tesco as I had a claim pending!
Thankfully claim went my way about 2 months ago (still waiting for money tho :()

If only there wasn't such a big rift in insurance prices between the sexes. It would be very nice to have such low insurance rates.

So what does that tell you Rich?
Apart from the fact that men are obviously unfairly discriminated against.......

That rift lessens with age!

:D Tee hee. No. The men are out of control. As usual.
That rift lessens with age!
Because older men allegedly drive more safely than younger ones.......
Not a big problem round here though as most people don't bother with insurance.

I think there was a study.. women ahve more crashes but usually smaller parking dings and low speed impacts.. where as men typically have bigger accidents with much more damage and loss of life..
Im sure I read that soemwhere, kind of makes sence! Except i know a few ladies that drive like plebs an all!
My driving ina impreza now is a lot safer than when i was 18 in a 1.3 astra!

Oh yes, I've heard that too.
As for young ladies driving like plebs, there's one who lives on our road. Seriously, she's a nutter - I've seen her drive down the road with no hands on the steering wheel while she's fiddling with either her mobile or her make up  She's got a year old Pug 206, and it's been in big accidents twice since January this year. However, since her last accident last month, it seems like her parents have confiscated her car keys as it hasn't moved since it got back from the repairers.
As for insurers, if they think you won't shop around, they'll try pushing it to see if you'll cough up. I shopped around when my car insurance came up last year, and although I could only find one £20 cheaper, I still managed to persuade my insurer to knock £20 off my renewal quote :D .

Interesting, known for some time the big difference between young men and women, but just looking at the North Wales stats for deaths only on the road and there is a high proportion of young men killed on the road at night.
The headmaster at the local comp told me he expects at least one old pupil per school to be killed in a RTA before they are 21, and i reckon he is about right.
As for quotes the point i was making was two different figures within the same campany, this has happened to me before. Been a tight flisted git i always ring the 0800 number of my existing policy instead of the renewal number that might cost me and end up with a cheaper quote. So now before i ring around i always ring new business and compare the fiqures nearly always cheaper. They are never surprised and does save hassle when they ask for no claims proof.
What i don't do is sign up on contouious direct debit, know of people who do this, funny with them the "renewal" docs arrive just before the rate goes up.
But you are all right shop around, its the hassle and time i get P****** off about

Actually I do for the LR, it's with Lancaster and they let you know a few weeks before hand what the price for the new year is going to be and after 3 years I have yet to find a cheaper quote.

There was a survey done on another forum some time ago quite detailed seems in the landy world in the end not that many specialise insures, a good 80% were with just about 1/2 dozen well known landy insurance names.
The real read was reponses from those who claimed, one or two we real pain, hence a "blacklist" was created, now i often read insurance wows same names mentioned again, not that i will react to each one, but after a bit a picture builds up on to who to avoid
