View Full Version : where to seal?

I have just ripped my carpets out of my disco and noticed that I have a puddle in my drivers side footwell and a wet patch coming in through the top window in the roof and running down on to the arch and then down onto the sill causing a hole in both, I was wondering as this is a common problem where do you seal them to stop it coming in any more.
Thanks
Kev.

The official fix! is to peel back the top windscreen rubber and where it touchs the roof lay down a thin line of silicone sealant so the rubber is stuck to the roof.
I assume its a 300?

I think this is exactly what you're after Kev: Clicky Linky Thingy (http://freespace.virgin.net/mark.hopkins2/WaterIngress.htm)
This may also prove of interest as I strongly suspect your sunroof drains have come adrift: More Clicky Linky Thingy (http://www.muckytruckin.co.uk/pages/technical/discoroof/discoroof.asp)

leaks come with landrovers as standard, do u have sun roofs? they might need looking at ie re seating cleaning to make sure that they are sealing propa if not then if all else fails then it silicone everything until u stop getting the leak!
hope some of this helps, have a leaky landy (well he does lol)

That info was all very useful for me too :) cheers.
Mine has water coming in the rear sunroof, looks like around the bit that goes onto the roof, not the glass seal - I siliconed that up - there was signs of silicone everywhere around there that had partially been cleaned off, so fingers crossed.
The other leak was a bad one, upon first breaking after moving off in wet car, the passenger dash/feet get what seems like a pint of water pours in suddenly. It looks like the top corners of the windscreen seal, just under the front of the gutter - now the whole top and corners are full of silicone.
I'll find out if it all worked tomorrow.
Thanks Underdog.

Thanks Underdog.
You're very welcome.
If I'm being totally honest here, Discovery leaks have been covered soooo many times, not only on this forum but, in general amongst Discovery owners across the net, that they are very well documented and are already fully understood.
It's maybe a failing, or even a suggestion ( and this is not a criticism ) of this forum but, in my opinion, there is a definate requirement to document ALL the known problems and pitfalls of Land Rover ownership and keep those archives in one place. This, again, in my opinion, would eradicate the requirement for posters asking such basic questions and further explain why, so many single post posters are so prevelent on the forum.
So glad I could help.

You have a valid point there, and you managed to refrain from saying 'use search!' - people should search before posting another question about the same thing. Sometimes though people don't know to search, and a search can result in way too many threads to get the info they need.
