You do indeed need desktop publishing software
This one Scribus (http://www.scribus.net/), is freeware and works on many different Os's. I haven't used it myself, but for a price of £0 you can't really go wrong can you!

You should be able to make a sign in word without too much trouble, what is the wording you want?

I think the ideal size would be similar to a number plate

Well, some people seem to be able to do some stuff in Word, personally I just treat it as a glorified typewriter which can type BIG:eek:

To do a sign that looks half good you need some sort of publishing program. Maybe working in print for nearly 3 decades has something to do with what I say, but, messy little signs and things cobbled together in Word look awful:(

Word has everything you need to make signs ... use `Wordart` for the text + import graphics into it etc ;)

This took less than 60 seconds using WordArt in word. Try this before learning a graphic programe/

Charlie ... you might not have the `Wordart` toolbar visible when you open Word, if not got to View/Toolbars/Drawing & it will appear on the bottom taskbar ... have fun :)
