I'm thinking of changing the centre console on my Discovery 1. The original has screw holes etc. where a previous owner had a hands free kit installed and it kind of looks a tad messy.

I can pick up a replacement in the right colour for not much cash and was hoping if somebody could advise whether it's possible to do a console replacement without dropping the gear box or without taking half the dashboard out.

Cheers in advance.:)

You don't need to remove the gearbox. Remove the gear levers, disconnect the handbrake, switch pack, electric seat switches and cigarette lighter. Then lift the console out.

I had a go at getting my centre console out when I wanted to run a wiring loom. I have to be honest it stumped me for a while and in the end I managed to squeeze the wiring loom into where I wanted it so I gave up there.

Good luck with the job, let us know how you get on and let me know if it was easy or not (just out of interest)!
