whilst towing a trailer yesterday my car showed signs of overheating whilst i was going up hill, i pulled over as pure white smoke started pouring out from the engine bay, most of the water had come out and there was unbelievable pressure forcing water out from every where, i managed to limp the her home. when i had a good look round her i found that the plastic screw on top of the thermostat housing had melted, i thought maybe the thermostat was sticking so i fitted a new one and fitted a new plastic screw. but when i started the car water was spewing out of the expansion cap, i tightened it then the water started coming out tne radiator screw, i tightened that then the pressure blew a hole through the side of my expansion tank. i was just hoping for any advice is it most likely that the head gasket is gone, even though she,s still running ok?. any help would be much appreciated!!!!:)

Iagree - your head gasket has blown. This usually happens with No4 cylinder.
Not as difficult as you may think if you ar handy with a set of tools. Taking the head off only takes a couple of hours. The method for the 200 and 300TDi engines is very similar. This thread is removal of the 300TDi head:-
