On reading new posts I looked at a freelander post of 30th July re the plastic sill covers covering muck etc causing rust. sugestions were to take them off, clean, rustproof and replace. Is this something which should also be done with a disco? At last MOT I was told that I will probably need sills doing next year. Garage says they just replace from the rear leaving the plastic bits as is as usually the plastic pins break when trying to remove them. Also if removed now can the sills be saved if not that bad? Comments please. On a totally different note (I know I am going to look stupid) but can someone tell me what LOL means when I see it in posts (especially shoutbox)

dunno about the rust and plastic cover issue, but LOL is internet shorthand for Laugh Out Loud or Lots Of Laughter depending who you ask ;)

I took the placcy sills off my Disco yonks ago and replaced them with rock sliders. The real sills were a bit tatty and are now exposed so easier to inspect/clean.

The plastic pins break when you remove the sill covers. I took mine off to get some welding done on the sills. New pins are cheap from your Land Rover dealer. I've now fitted rock sliders so shouldn't have any mot problems with the sills for a while.

Thought the sills wernt an MOT fail, as Discos have a body mounted on a chassis. Removed mine for rock sliders, and yes they had begun to rust around the holes where the pins fit.

Thanks everybody. Looks like my local garage (independant landrover) are trying to put one over on me. Are rock slidders easy to fit and are they expensive? Any pics to see what they look like on?Thought the sills wernt an MOT fail, as Discos have a body mounted on a chassis. I agree with all the guy above, get some rock sliders on. Not too bad to fit, we did it with two of us and a bottle jack in the middle for support. the only thing you have to remember is the bottom edge is slightly curved, so fit each end loosely, get the gap between the rock slider and car even then just tighten everything up.

Then all you will need is a 2"lift, big tires, steering guard, snorkel............:D :D
