As the title reads. At the moment I own a 2002 Chevy Z71 and am planning on selling it to buy a (new to me) Land Rover Discovery. I'm not planning on buying a brand new Discovery (03-04), but would like to get a 1999 or up model. Are these good years to look at? I would like to add a little lift. What are my options for near factory ride? What problems am I getting into by adding a lift on the Discovery? Are there other suspension/drivetrain upgrades I should do when lifting? I would like to end up with an Auto tranny, but am not sure how good they are? Should I look at the manuals? Please help a severe neebie out with any info I'm leaving out.

BTW great board, I can't believe the amount of info. Thanks for the help and time

Hi Z71guy, and welcome!!!

I've got a late 99 Disco TD5 ES. It's the one with air suspension and Active cornering.

Nowt wrong with them, and you should be able to (very easily) do a lift on the air suspension (see www.discoparts.com)

If you pootle along to www.doc-forum.org.uk, there's a "non-members" section on there where you could try posting this. It's the UK Discovery Owners Club forum...

You haven't suggested whether you'll be off-roading the vehicle... They're extremely capable both on and off, but mine's a bit of a shopping car (I have a defender 90 for the off road stuff!!!) so I can't really comment on the off-road ability.

Basically, I love my TD5. It's one of the best cars I've driven, and is really, really comfortable, without the "wallow" of the earlier 200 and 300TDi's.

Cheers

Ben
