View Full Version : L series cam/fip belt update
:) Hi guys, just a quick update on the freelander L series - after a P.O. delay got the cam and fip belts delivered and glad to say they are both now fitted - so thats oil changed along with air, fuel and oil filters, and complete clutch assy fitted, thrust, release cover plate, and driven plate.
Certainly modern cars are not as easy to work on as they were in yesteryear - at least we had room to work in to get at components - but today everything is crammed in so tight you would need to be made of elastic to reach some parts. Glad I'm no longer wielding the spanners/hammer - they are toooooooooo complicated.
Thanks Temp4r for the cam/fip belt pdf file - dru :)

Hi there,
I think I had better get my cma belt changed..............been on there quite a while. I've been quoted a small fortune for the garage to fit it..............any chance you could send me a copy of the pdf file you used, please?
Thanks,
Maria.

What engine do you have? 1.8 petrol or L series diesel.
TD4 is a chain, V6 you cannot do without the proper stretcher plates.
Chris
:) Hi, if you look at my posts you'll find the pdf file Chris (Templ4r) kindly sent me. If its the L series engine you have, LR recommend the cam belt be changed at 48000 miles - the 1.8 petrol engine I don't know but would think it would be a lot more than 48k - maybe 70+ but only a guess. If changing the cam belt you really must do the fuel injection pump belt at the same time. Hope this helps, drew.
Just a quick add on - if the belts are quite a number of years old say 6 or more but the car has only done say 36k I would think of changing them as the material they are made from deteriorates over time (just as we do!!!!!!!!).
