Hi people....

Anyone got a FL2 yet??....any reports on good/bad things yet??

I bought my current td4 3dr FreeLander new in Sept 01...All has been good so far.

I put an order in for a FL2, expected Oct/Nov this year. I'm still wondering if I should take a production model for a test-drive, or just wait for the supprise!

How come you are getting yours so quick??...Is I assume yours will be from dealer stock, and not a factory order?...

'Cos of the spec I wanted (Only a GS, but with several extra's), they had to do a factory order....so I'm looking at 12 weeks.....which, from date of order, is end of Oct/Nov. :(

Had a short drive in a FL2 last month and the car is indeed amazing. It drives like a big limousine (style Mercedes E, BMW 5 and co), was a real surprise (a good one that is), while all the good points of the FL1 were present as well such as excellent sitting position, excellent visibility and above all it has and gives the same good "vibs" you get when driving the FL1.:) :) :)

GgGrr...I'll have to put my Aept 2001 through another MOT/Service/Tax etc , only a few weeks before selling it....means I wont get my money back there then... :(

So people....what extra's have you ordered??

On my GS order, I have added:
Metalic paint (Sumatra black; "Factory fit")
Privicy glass (Factory Fit)
Roof Rails (At last, I could order them!...Dealer fit)
Winter pack (HIDs, heated screen/washers/seats, Factory Fit)
6-disk in-dash stereo (Not sure if this is dealer or factory fit)
Std-hight towbar (Dealer fit)
Front parking sensors (Factory Fit)

Had 1 for a week a month ago i found it well built the only problem was where the spare wheel was (under the floor which u have to access via opening the boot)
i wonder if theres an option to fit the wheel on the back :) )

i still like the spare tyre being on the back door its an added safety feature i think plus it a full size spare and not a space saver.

I did like the power of hte diesel engine the only regret with my FL is that its petrol and with the diff knackered at the moment its going through petrol like nobodys business plus its crap in front wheel drive....

Quick Q? I bought a v6 FL1 off my boss a few months ago to drive after a knee operation because it is an auto and planned to keep it until Sept. I have found it really easy to lug the dog around in and I can get in a lot more rural car parks than my usual defender 90 because of height restrictions.

I really like the sliding tail door window. Is this still a feature on the FL2?
Cheers

lol...I thought that too...but I would still have had to have paid extra for the Winterpack...Privicy glass...towbar...6-Disk CD player...Front parking sensors...roof rails etc...

Sliding tail door??....FL1's are side-hinged, with a retractable glass, that slides down.

The FL2 is top hinged...no sliding glass...no option of splitting top/bottom... :(

Will be interested to compare responses. I take delivery of GS on Sept 1. Test drove one on Friday and loved it. The big question will surely be reliability 'cos it's the only unknown at present. Keep posting!

If it had the steering wheel on the right side (left:D :D ) I'd say that you could have mine straight away (Td4 Steptronic 5drs) and I would wait THAT long before taking possession of your EX-car......;) :) :) :)
The FL1 was/is worth waiting for, imagin the FL2 is worth it double. Good luck and happy miles with it.

Hi,

So, any one get theirs yet?? (I know a couple of UK based peoiple said they were getting theirs at the plate-change)...

Can anyone advise what kind of bulbs go in High-mounted centre rear break light?.....I was planning to change these to brighter/quicker response LEDS...but wont bother if they are allready LEDS!.

Mines still 6-8 weeks away :(

Also, what have people done regarding tow-bars?...My dealer has quoted £600... my local landrover specialist £400 (They nearly fell over when they saw the price of the LandRover parts)..

I'm toying with the idea of getting indespension (Who, in an add of theirs, claim to fit any tow-bar, to any car for £175)...

I know the FL2 is all CAN-Networked, and anything effecting this coull screw the whole motor....including the warranty??

picked my gs up on Saturday, find it drives like a dream, quietly powerful, superb driving position, ruggedly refined etc. Dealership issues on the day however that i will reserve while they try to restore my faith - will update in a week's time with glowing praise for them, i hope

Hhhmmm....that's true...mines still about 6 weeks away....maybe a could save myself a few hundred quid, & cancel the 6 disk-in-dash I added, & use the money towards a proper tow-bar/shooting platform?.....

Do you know what bulbs are in the Centre-High mount breaklight?

shar

Hi don't know about the brake light will have a look tomorrow and post in the evening....sorry if this is a dim question but what is a shooting platform?

mburton2
4th Sep 2007, 19:14
lol...not a daft question, IF you dont know what one is!

Well, the FL2 I have on order it to replace my 2001td4 3dr, which I bought (To replace my 3dr Frontera I had before:eek:), because (Like the 3dr Frontera), the roof comes off, allowing me to fold the rear seats flat, and stand up in the back when I go Lamping (Rabbit shooting) across the fields.

Well, there is NO 3dr FL2....so I'll have to make something suitable to shoot from...I'm thinking something that fits over the tow-bar, allowing me to stand on the back of the vehicle (on the twin steps, fitted to the tow-bar mount), and give me something to lean back on, without falling off!. I'll try to scan a picture tomoorw, from a magazine, that gave me the idea...

I'll also need to make something to fit to the roof rails (using a couple of cross bars, a bit of plywood, and SOMETHING on top) to stop damage to the roof of the FL2/Rifle.

So, now you know!

See this Pic...
This is ROUGHLY what I want, except I want to attach mine to the tow-bar, notthe spare-wheel carrier.....as the FL2 doesnt have one!

WooHoo!!...got a call from the dealer today....I should be able to collect my car Next friday!....:D

On a whim, I asked the price of a Tow-bar (This is the 4th time I've asked now)...and I've been quoted ANOTHER price...this time over £600!! I dont understand how they can give me a different price each time....almost £400 difference between the cheapest & the most expensive quote, for the same thing, from the same dealer...

So I collect FL2 on Friday, have it booked in for a Towbar fitting Saturday with Indespension..... £260 all in.

Got a black 2.2TD4 GS in sumatra black, privacy and 18" HSE wheels...it is a great car swapped it from a 06 06 reg FL1 TD4 adventurer which sorry to say for all you FL1 owners I hated especially as it had a new gearbox, clutch and drive shafts at 3500 miles.

Had a couple of niggles with the FL2 but they have all been software related, mine been one from the first production run. It took a few months but they where all sorted with software patches.

The FL2 goes really well, on the LR experience day they showed me on road what you can do in sand mode on the terrain response and this certainly sharpens every thing up.

Having had the FL2 5 months both myself and wife think its great and will be keeping it for some time which is a change as we usually change often. They really are a nice car and totally different in every way to the FL1....Only problem is you can go on the LR experience if you buy one, I drove a RRS TDV8 HSE on road and D3 TDV6 HSE off road, now both of them are nice especially the RRS!!

Hey all, I have had an absolutley fantastic time this morning, spent the morning at rockingham castle with the Landrover experience team in an auto FL2 and let me tell you it was brilliant ,i went round the course with the instructor first then he let me behind the wheel it was great ,with the rain that we have had its was nice and muddy and i was totally amazing to see what the FL2 can do off road ,i went on a piece of the track called the axle twister we had the front left wheel and back right wheel off the the ground and with the terrain response and hill decent on and some revs we were soon off and out , this was my first time going off road and loved it , many thanks to Don who went round with me he made me feel confident in what i was doing and is a great teacher , i have some photos of the morning so will post them later :D have fun all .

Yes, I collected last Friday eve, Saturday Morn took it up to Ipswitch to have a Towbar/steps put ont he back (OK, it does ruin the look of the motor, but I need it to be functional....it is a LANDROVER after all.....

I got a couple of scratches on the roof that need to be sorted (Glad I spotted them before leaving the dealer), it looks like the dealer managed to scratch the roof fitting the roof-bars. The dealer has given me the number of a "Dentmaster" type guy, who will sort the scratches out, and bill the dealer directly.

It FEELS so much bigger than the 2001 Td4 I had before....it drive very well....although I'm a LITTLe disapointed with the fuel consumption...

My 2001MY was returning 38-40mpg all the time....the computor on my new one is showing an average to 34mpg. I know the engine is still abit tight, but I hope it gets better soon!

I have been unable to change the rear tail/brake indicator & front sidelight bulbs to LEDs like I did on the previous one...

The PWM system they use to "stabelise" the voltage on the bulbs, means that any LEDs fitted flicker...so cant be used :(

I'm struggling a little with the whole "keyless" thing....my bunch of keys is quite bulky....and when its hanging out of the dash, I can sometimes feel them tapping my knee.....I'd hate to think what would happen if I was involved in a crash.....my housekeys would end up inbedded in my knee-cap!

When I 1st pick the car up, I was shocked how skittish it was, and how easily it slid on the road...but I suspect that was the dealer applying too much "tyre-black", and made them real slippary....as it seems to be much better allready.

New tyres are as dangerous as completely used ones. New ones need a couple of hundred kilometers to get to their real driving surface.

Righty then boys'n'girls...

I have now booked my Experiance day....gonna be a 3hr drive to Eastnor Caste....There are a couple of places closer, but I've been told that Eastnor castle is "the best"....I have been to the one just outside Milton keynes which was "OK".....Only time (Weds 24th!) will tell.....

I have also had approval to do the "LandRover Stage 1" certification, where my employer will fund £150 of "non-work related" training per year...:D
At the end of October, my "year" starts again....so if all goes well on the "Stage1", I may progress to the Stage2 certification.
I did my BORDA (British Off Road Driving Association) stage 1 a few years ago, and am expecting the LandRover stage1 to be pretty-much the same...but its all good (cheap!) fun.
