Hi,

Up till now my engine always got the 6,8 liter motoroil when oilchange was done (including oilfilter but as this is of the 'hanging' type it doesn't keep any oil in it when engine is off I think) and what I noticed was that the oil level was about 1 cm above the maximum on the stick (oil just touched the 9 of the part#), so now I first put 6 liter in it which was still too much, took some out so I'm tend to believe it is more something like 5,5 liter it needs than that 6,8. On another forum someone suggested I might have an incorrect oillevel stick (mine is the same since car was new though), so can one of the early Td4 owners (mine's a 2001) possibly have a look at the part number of their stick to see whether it's the same as on mine, namely: 7 785 931 (see also the attached picture, "niveau met 6,8 l" means "level with 6,8 liter"). Thanks.

Yes, 6.8 litres for a TD4 and 4.5 for an L series, Will.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the above but how do you explain that the level is way too high when 6,8l is put in and even with 6l it's still way above max. therefore sucked out some more (about 1/2 l I'd say) so my guess is that 5,5 l is a fair amount to have it all filled up to the maximum (or almost to the maximum).

The outer tube hasn't gone in further has it, Will?

Possibly Richard can measure his for you.

565 mm measured along the front face of the tube (nearest radiator) from the lip where the tube enters the block to the top of the tube.

Hi,
Checked that out and impossible to be as the tube is solidly fixed onto the oilfilterhouse. I measured the distance from the bottom of the yellow stop on top of the stick up till the top of the maximum level and it is exactly 59.9 centimeters ? (Just in case mine would be an incorrect dipstick I measured it to check)

I agree my tube is also firmly bolted to the fiter housing and the dip stick is also 599 mm.

Is it not possible that when you are draining the oil out more than expected is staying in the engine, ie in the oil cooler or something?

The car is level when draining the oil, also leave it drain for quite a while. The oil is also rather hot = as fluent as possible?
