View Full Version : Intermittent Engine Light Flicker - Pls help as I've sold Freebie!

Hi all

Looks like I've sold the Freebie and am looking into getting a FL2:eek: - trying to get my head around the different specs and seek out the best deal.

Took blokey for a test drive last night and he's desperate to buy - only condition is that I put it through an MOT. Problem is my orange engine light flickers at start-up, and continues to flicker for about 5-10 miles afterwards (after that it disappears). If I stop then restart on a warm engine I don't seem to get the flicker.

Any ideas? It's been like this for ages and has not presented any problems with performance etc (it didn't seem to happen after my 4x4 experiences in the snow/floods though:confused:). I'm thinking it's a loose connection somewhere - grateful if you could tell me where to look. Ta, HB.

I'm slightly confused... You just want to fix the light or get an MOT?

The light isn't part of the MOT.

Sorry to confuse... I'm not worrying about the MOT though I may have to replace a tyre or too.

I'm worrying that the engine light flicker may put this bloke off so I need a (hopefully quick/free) fix before I sell. I forgot to tell him about it last night when we went for test drive (honest! ;))

Ah, the good old backstreet dealer trick  I had considered it! How easy is it to get the instrument cluster off? ;)

Not very honest though, is it? What about in the future, when the guy gets a real engine fault, but cant be made aware of it because of your dishonesty?:(

Don't worry, I'm not going to pull the bulb - I just need to know what connections need to be tightened!

If the bulb is burned you can't be blamed for it, can you ? (I never check whether, at start-up, all the bulbs light up for a second or so? If than it's burned you won't see it anymore but not your fault?)

I wouldn't do this myself but it just came to my mind, instead of pulling the bulb that is, I mean. (All my cars, even those I left to the garage while buying a new one, were in excellent shape).

For some reason I think you may have a simple sensor fault.
